Uplifting America … by Alice B. Clagett ..

Revised; originally published on 11 May 2013

Dear Ones,

I’ve been going to the Senior Center here in Colorado for a few weeks, and before the daily meal we all say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. I have to admit, I hadn’t said it since grade school, and I had to fudge on a few words at first. But shortly I had it down, and the thing I noticed was, how speaking the words changed my attitude toward the United States. So much so that, I’d like to propose:

Of all the things we can do to help our nation survive these tumultuous times, this may be one of the most important, and simplest, things – to recite the Pledge of Allegiance once daily.

In case you’d like to give it a try, here are a few renditions, sorted by age group:

YOUNG

Video: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America” recited by a young person: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo-tJsszJxs ..

YOUNGER

JOHN WAYNE

If you don’t live in the United States, maybe there’s an equivalent for your country – if not a Pledge, then maybe a national song?

Just think! Our attitudes towards our countries may have more to do with global politics than any social justice campaign!

In love, light and joy,
I Am of the Stars
